The Great Annual Sheep Drive over London Bridge

A ewenique piece of history – the Great Annual Sheep Drive over London Bridge. I was thrilled to be witness this year, as I launched my pure wool collection of blankets, throws, bedspreads and cushions.

Of old, it was a great privilege to Freemen to drive their sheep across London Bridge instead of paying a toll. Today Freeman have re-introduced the ceremony, with herded sheep on the footpath and lots of people dressing up in fun sheepy costumes.

Just four years ago, they used stuffed sheep on wheels. This year, it was small flocks and an inaugural wool fair at Monument. There I was, surrounded by woollen wonderland, from Ewenique footstools to The Wool Room beds and bedding shops. And who should walk by to open the event but Nigel Mansell in first gear.

Thank you to everyone who patronised my shop. A delightful day and a privilege for me to meet The Worshipful Company of Woolmen.

What a fabulous opportunity to go to the children’s wear trade fair Bubble London at the Business Design Centre in Angel Islington.

And I have got to mention meeting Michelle Harriman-Smith, creative director and founder of Childrensalon. It’s not every day you get positive feedback from a guru of luxury children’s couture. Check out the baby gift sets that she praised.

Crowning moments at Blenheim Palace Flower Show

Great British summers make me think of freshly mown lawns, kart wheels and lazy days in the sun. Not the most obvious season for considering knitwear, you might think. You would be wrong. Treasured knitted cardigans, jackets and boleros keep out the chill that is an inevitable part of the Great British summer.

And so it was this weekend at the Blenheim Palace Flower Show when we exhibited in the indoor shopping village alongside beautifully crafted jewellery, fashion, skin care and garden accessories. When the sun shone, the hoards entered and when the skies clouded over and the wind whistled through the marquees, happy shoppers cooed over our Yak collection.

Setting up on Thursday afternoon (under the direction of Teddy – 3yrs and with the great help of Heidi -1 yr) was so much fun and we enjoyed our first day of sales on Friday. Everyone gave us such wonderful feedback about the softness and beautiful sheen of the clothes and the charming nostalgic look of our designs.
Saturday brought many Americans to our stand – it was of course a pleasure to meet you all and enjoy your fabulous encouragement and great sales.
Sunday was the busiest day for the show and for us! We met some wonderful young couples keen for that something special for christenings and weddings. We also had a lot of interest in our bespoke service.
It is wonderful to see that knitwear is making such a comeback and lovely to hear that so many of you are knitters or learning to knit. We’ve met some lovely little ones this weekend and we’ve seen photos of some gorgeous babies. Do send us any pictures you take of your little ones in our beautiful Crowns & Coronets  clothes and we look forward to seeing you again next year!
