Wool Week 2016

October 7, 2016

Wool Week is here and we are ready to Cast Off!

At Crowns & Coronets we have been planning a stunning woollen display for Priory Park in the heart of Chichester for many moons. So, on Monday, when we hoisted our fab woollen creations  into the trees, we raised a cheer for the fabulous properties of wool and the dedicated people who farm, process and work with this stunning fibre.

We hope the display will bring cheer to any passing by, as we colourfully raise awareness for the mental health charity Coastal West Sussex MIND. Don’t forget, you can still donate at www.justgiving.com/knitting-minds

Over the last few weeks our Knitting Minds project has really captured the imagination and needles of the community. We’ve received pompoms from as far afield as Australia, Lancashire and London; the 7th Chichester Guides and the Knit & Natter group at The Crate & Apple pub, to name but a few.

To top this off, I was delighted to be invited to give an assembly to The Prebendal Pre-prep school, alongside my friend Sammy the sheep. It was wonderful to hear all the children’s ideas about the wonderful properties of wool (Did YOU know astronauts wear wool next to the skin in space because of its ability to wick moisture? Did you know wool is flame retardant – unlike polyester – so a good get for firefighters too?). But even my giant knitting needles couldn’t get that BFG scarf knitted in the time!
